Art Amplifies Pitt Campus Life
There is more to Pitt than academic achievement and groundbreaking research. An impressive variety of art graces the Pittsburgh campus.
Walking across campus, students and visitors can see a Malvina Hoffman-designed relief portrait of 19th-century Pittsburgh industrialist Henry Clay Frick at the entrance to the Frick Fine Arts Building, which is home to hundreds of prints and drawings in the University’s Art Gallery.
On the walls of the Frick Cloister hang exceptional reproductions of 15th-century Italian Renaissance frescoes, completed a century ago by Russian artist Nicholas Lochoff.
Atop the front façade of Parran Hall is a sculpture by Pitt's Virgil Cantini; other examples of the sculptor’s work can be found in Posvar Hall and the School of Law building.
Spanish artist Felix de la Concha’s 365 Views of the Cathedral of Learning series can be found in Pitt's Alumni Hall.
Art at Pitt extends beyond exhibitions and sculptures, to the buildings themselves. Heinz Memorial Chapel houses beautiful 73-foot-high stained-glass windows in Neo-Gothic style.
Pitt’s Cathedral of Learning Commons Room displays the wrought-iron work of master craftsman Samuel Yellin.
